Tasting/Testing Journal, Ep. 8 Ocean Breeze Cannabis “Chef’s Kiss” Flower

We like the “seaweed” pun on the box, and our testing urge couldn’t resist two products from the same batch of flower…
Today we discuss the “Chef’s Kiss” flower from Ocean Breeze. We’ve enjoyed unprocessed eighths of their flower previously, but this was our first experience with the “shake” product. The opportunity to compare the 7 g shake jar with the eights of nuggets from the same batch was especially exciting.
From their website: “Ocean Breeze is a family-run cannabis business in Gloucester, Massachusetts— cultivating landrace, heirloom, and classic strains for cannabis enthusiasts seeking a deeper connection to their experience.”
They package in colorless glass jars, which go into a box, I presume, to protect the flower from light. A particular point in their favor is that a QR code on the box takes me straight to the COA.
By smell, we could discern that each of these products was the same strain of flower. The odor, peppery and floral, was consistent with the report of terpenes helpfully provided on the COA. Not every certificate or label in MA includes terpenes, and the inclusion reflects positively upon Ocean Breeze. If only that COA were available to the customer before purchase.
The shake was not dry, and clung together. It also packed nicely into cones that pulled with pleasant resistance and burned evenly. The nuggets were small, colorful, and tricomaceous (it’s a word NOW!).
From either a bowl (the nugs) or a joint, (the shake), the Chef’s Kiss is a great smoke. I had a pleasant buzz through my body from this flower, and it hit nicely as a contrast to dabs of concentrate.
Joints are ill-regarded by some these days, but we continue to encounter their particular value for walkabout consumption. A jar of shake and a pack of cones are marvelous conveniences for this urge to walk and puff.
The big question, of course, is how different were the nugs from the shake? From the perspective of smoking experience and taste, we found them comparable. The Orange Photonics, Inc. LightLab could discern a small difference, though.
The COA for these products, from “Analytics Labs”, presents an absurd number of digits for “Total THC” of 23.924849%. You should be skeptical of anyone who claims so many significant figures. The value of THCA claimed was 23.2%, and of THC was 0.76%.
We measured 17.7% THCA, and 1.4% THC, from the nugs. Since this flower was around for a bit since testing and purchase, the doubled level of THC probably came from decarboxylation of THCA. That accounts for a portion of the 6 weight% difference between the THCA on the COA and that which we measured. The shake measured slightly lower, at 15.5% THCA and 1.9% THC, but the joints still buzzed.
It’s sad that the contents weren’t labeled more accurately, but we enjoyed the experience of this flower quite a bit.
TL;DR
🌊🔥 Tasting/Testing Ep. 8: Ocean Breeze Cultivators “Chef’s Kiss”
We seaweed, we liked.
Ocean Breeze Cannabis (Gloucester, MA) has given us some solid eighths before, so when we found both nugs and shake from the same batch, we couldn’t resist.
🧪 Side-by-side testing? Yes, chef.
From the jar to the joint, Chef’s Kiss held up:
👃 Peppery + floral aroma
🌈 Small, colorful, trichome-coated buds
🌬️ Smooth burn in cones from the shake
💥 Strong, even high — especially from a walkabout joint
📦 Bonus points:
Glass jars protect quality
QR code goes right to the COA
hashtag#Terpenes are listed (yes!)
But… hashtag#COA not available pre-purchase (boo)
🔬On the hashtag#LightLab:
COA said 23.9% THC (way too many decimal places…)
We found:
• Nugs – 17.7% THCA, 1.4% THC
• Shake – 15.5% THCA, 1.9% THC
💡 The higher THC levels suggest some THCA converted (older product = natural hashtag#decarboxylation). Still packed a punch.
⚖️ Final verdict?
Ocean Breeze’s “Chef’s Kiss” was tasty, aromatic, and effective — even if the label didn’t tell the whole truth. And if joints are out of fashion, count us happily out of touch.
