This one had a smell that was funky and gassy, with a little spice. It was really interesting.
The Cure Company is based in California, and is expanding into Arizona and Massachusetts. The label names the grower as Power Fund Operations, LLC, a Mass cultivator first licensed in 2018. When I scanned the QR code on the package, I was taken to a Linktree message: “This account has been removed due to a breach of our Community Standards.”
I can’t find “The Real OG” among the strains listed on the Cure Co. website, so I don’t know anything about the heritage. I perceived it as similar to a Sour Diesel, and decidedly flavorful. These were cute, irregularly-shaped, frosty nuggets with clearly visible individual florets. It might have been a little drier than I prefer, but it retained flavor and had my preferred density.
“The Real OG” flower packed nicely into joints, and as long as I didn’t squeeze them too tight while rolling they burned cleanly. The smoke wasn’t heavy and tarry, and carried notes of spice, gas, and a cookout. I really enjoyed this flower, and I felt great every time I smoked it. It was a heady high that brought mind to its special place.
As usual, I measured the cannabinoids using the Lightlab3 HS from Orange Photonics. I measured three samples, taken by breaking up several nuggets of different sizes. A single 1/8th package is a very different cross-section of buds than a full cultivation batch, but I wanted to sample as representatively as I could. In the chart of results below, I give the standard deviations (pop) in parentheses; the bigger they are, the more that quantity varied between measurements.
Label contents TAC: 36.6% D9-THC: 1.0% THCA: 31.6% THCVA: 1.2% CBGA: 2.1% CBG: 0.1% CBCA: 0.5% | Measured contents TAC: 29.1% (sd 0.81) D9-THC: 1.7% (sd 0.05) THCA: 24.6% (sd 0.83) THCVA: ND (<0.5%) CBGA: 2.0% (sd 0.08) CBG: ND (<0.5%) CBCA: 0.8% (sd 0.07) |
For the most part, my results are very consistent with those on the label. Two key exceptions are that we measure much lower THCA%, and couldn’t detect any THCVA. Some sort of overlabeling of cannabinoids seems to be par for the course, whatever the reason. When I see that those exaggerated are the intoxicating cannabinoids, my suspicions turn toward deliberate inflation.
This eighth was $45, which at this particular retail outlet qualifies as “premium.” My personal experience with handling and consuming this flower is that it lived up to that level, and earned its price point. It’s worth asking, how could this delicious flower get valued appropriately without advertising some unrealistic THCA%?
That being said, how representative will this product be of future ones carrying the “Cure Company” name? I can’t figure out how much the brand had to do with the product, and how much to credit Power Fund Operations. So, while I would certainly buy a bag from “The Cure Company” again at this price, I would try it myself before sharing with friends.
TL:DR
The Real OG from The Cure Company
Bought some “premium” flower for $45 and let’s just say… I didn’t regret it.
Smelled like gas, spice, and mystery—like Sour Diesel got invited to a BBQ.
Cute frosty nugs rolled great, smoked smooth, and sent me straight to my happy place.
Tested with our LightLab3 HS—turns out the label might’ve taken some creative liberties with that THCA percentage.
Shoutout to the QR code that led to a deleted Linktree (the mystery continues).
No clue what strain “The Real OG” really is, but it was tasty and worth the splurge.
Just maybe don’t gift it to your friends before giving it a solo spin. Trust, but verify.
